Zeitoun

Hey , In my English 101 class we're reading a book called "Zeitoun".  In New Orleans a hurricane was occurring and instead of leaving to a safe place with family Zeitoun stood behind to save other people lives. A lot of people would not risk their left by choice to save others. Zeitoun refuse to leave the city. "He wanted see everything that had happened and would happen with his own eyes" (Zeitoun 108). Zeitoun is truly a hero in my eyes.

Response to Hurricane Sandy

Hey my name is Wanda Tineo i am writing about New York response to Hurricane Sandy . I believe the city response was adequate because they help people that lost their homes to get shelter for a period of time. But they was also inadequate because after a couple of months they stop helping these people, so they were left without a place to live . Everything they had was destroy & it wasn't their fault. Some of these people home was made into something that the city could benefit from. In Shock Doctrine "Blanking The Beach" she talks about a "New Rule" there were a mysterious fire & people were told they couldn't live by the beach and everything had to be at lest two hundred meters back from the high-water mark. Basically they left fishing man without homes. These people benefit from the disaster & drove people out of there homes.

" Sandy Stories"

I am writing this blog about victims that lived hurricane sandy for an assignment in my english class. The assignment asked me to pick two stories on the "Sandy Storyline" & to make two quote sandwiches. 

No one expect for hurricane sandy to hit New York City that hard. A lot of people wasn't prepare. Linda Restanio and her family walked to the beach to check on the water . Not knowing the dangerous these waves would be & how much damage it was going to cause to theirhomes . Linda stated "usually everybody gets excited with a storm" (Linda Resnanio). But everything was destroy.  No one expect for this hurricane to hit so hard. Hurricane Sandy took people lives, destroy people homes and properties. It left bad memory in New York City. 

Debbie Turner & her daughter Ayla lived in their home for about 6-7 year before Sandy storm hit . She was 8 months pregnant when the storm hit. Which made it difficult for her . As shown in the video her  home was destroy she had no wall, furniture, light, gas. She has been waiting for FEMA to send her money to rebuild her house . They lost her paper work twice . Which kind've of ridiculous in her condition with a daughter and a newborn. The government didn't know how to handle the situation. so they just try to get rid of people by find them a temporary home. Turner states "The government doesn't know what they really doing with us" (Debbie Turner).  Which I agree with her in situation that she's in. She has a new born & a daughter & still the government is moving slow with processes of rebuilding her home. 

Why New York isn't prepare for climate change

One reason why New York City is not prepare for climate change is because rising sea posses a threat to the fragile building and roads by the Coastline of New York City. Critics say city officials is moving too slowly to address the potential damage.Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg administration is installing green roofs to absorb rain water and making property owners move boilers out if basement more incline to floods in order to accommodate expanding wetland and a rising wave. I feel as everyone in New York needs perpetration. Mireya writes " Others express concern for areas like the South Bronx and Sunset Park in Brooklyn, which have large industrial waterfronts with chemical-manufacturing plants, oil-storage sites and garbage-transfer stations" (Mireya). If dangerous materials aren't secured with storm surges, people could one day be wading through toxic water.

What my classmate like about my essay is the way it flowed & how one thing lead into the next and flowed seamlessly. The thing they think i need is a thesis. Which already found my thesis sentence. I do need help in putting my essay into a letter. I will seek help with my writing & how to put my ideas into a letter.

The Climate Casino Graphs

Hello my name is Wanda Tineo & I'll will be compare & contrast two graph from "The Climate Casino".

Figure 6 shows a piece of atmospheric concentration of carbon due to human activities. Scientist estimated that carbon concentration have extended from 190 parts per millions to 280 part per millions over the last million years. The world is over the range of concentration since we human have emerged on earth. The current concentration are now over 390 part per million.

New York Time article "New York Faces Is Lagging as Seas and Risk Rise, Critics Warn"

Hello my name Wanda Tineo, & i will be summarizing the New York Time article "New York Faces Is Lagging as Seas and Risk Rise, Critics Warn" By Mireya Navarro.i'll also summarize one of the comments to the article. 

Rising seas posses a threat to the fragile buildings and roads by the coastline of New York City. Critics says " City officials is moving to slowly to address the potential damages from flooding". In the article Douglas Hills says " Instead of  "Planning to be Flooded" city, state and federal agencies should be investing in protection like sea gates that could close during a storm and block a surge from Long Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean into the East River and New York Harbor. I agree with Douglas, the federal officials aren't making the necessary actions to offer solutions for future hazards cause by rising waves .Their shouldn't be any procrastinating in this serious matter because as the ocean warmed and expanded the water in city has rise a inch every 10 year over the last hundred years. With higher sea a common storm could happen & could affect transportation, cripple the low-lying financial district & force thousand of people out of their homes.

Spending billions of dollars to build sea gates without an Apollo like effort to stem the flow of carbon pollution currently accelerating rising sea levels, warming oceans and more intense an frequent storms is like treating the symptoms without curing the disease. The flow of carbon pollution is whats currently accelerating rising sea levels. That's why there needs to be a quick transition to clean and renewable energy rather then spending billions of dollars to build sea gates. Because building seas gates doesn't target the root of the issue but rather only temporarily provides a solution for rising seas. That's why Jim Gordon point out the suggestion to building sea gates is like treating the symptoms without curing the disease .
